On Sunday, the 4th of July, we attended a surprise 50th birthday party for Fern’s mum, Mandy. Lara was asked to make a cake, and joked about making an American flag cake since it’s Independence Day. Fern asked if I could make a British flag cake instead, since the theme of the party was “British tea party.”
Here it is, my confectionary evidence of patriotic blasphemy:
Needless to say, it went down pretty well! I used a basic white cake, topped with cream cheese frosting, then made the flag using strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Big thanks to Christine, who let me steal some of her blueberries when I ran out
I will have all the Americans know that while making this cake, I was singing the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful and My Country Tis of Thee, and was also picturing fireworks in my mind.
