Patriotic Blasphemy

On Sunday, the 4th of July, we attended a surprise 50th birthday party for Fern’s mum, Mandy.  Lara was asked to make a cake, and joked about making an American flag cake since it’s Independence Day.  Fern asked if I could make a British flag cake instead, since the theme of the party was “British tea party.”

Here it is, my confectionary evidence of patriotic blasphemy:

Needless to say, it went down pretty well!  I used a basic white cake, topped with cream cheese frosting, then made the flag using strawberries, blueberries and raspberries.  Big thanks to Christine, who let me steal some of her blueberries when I ran out :)

I will have all the Americans know that while making this cake, I was singing the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful and My Country Tis of Thee, and was also picturing fireworks in my mind.

4th of July

Happy not being part of the UK anymore!

For the 4th of July we had a nice evening enjoying the sunshine with our friends Tom (one of the best men at the wedding) and Becca, we sat out on our driveway soaking up the sun and having a beer or two… or three…

We then went to The Treehouse pub which, coincidentally, had American flags and cowboys hats, it made Lara feel at home!

Here are some pictures from the evening:
