Camping and Salisbury

This weekend we went camping at Green Hill Farm in Wiltshire, with our friends Tom and Becca, to celebrate Sam’s birthday weekend (his actual birthday is Monday).  The weather wasn’t the greatest – cold, wet, windy – but we still had a great time.  In the field next to our site, there were lots of cows and donkeys; the donkeys are really friendly and come right up to the fence to let you pet them!

The showers were a BIG improvement on last year; they’ve been completely re-done so don’t have the resident spiders anymore, and the water temperature is a constant warm instead of alternating between scalding and freezing.

Sam acted as head-chef, cooking breakfast on his new camping stove:

On Saturday we went into Salisbury, which was nearby, and spent the day there.  We had a quick visit of Salisbury cathedral, which was really beautiful, and had a coffee in their cafe – it was gorgeous because it had a glass ceiling and you could look up and see a lot of the great architecture of the cathedral.

In other news, Baby has been kicking away!  Lara is getting really big and is starting to feel a bit uncomfortable… camping while 6-months pregnant was interesting :)   We can’t believe we are only three months away from meeting our daughter!

Lots of people have been buying her some great presents, but recently Amy, Matt and Levi sent over a bunch of great clothes from Old Navy!  Here is Lara’s favorite (modeled by Sam’s bear):

the pink tutu

Lara’s mom put her in a blue tutu when she was little, so it’s fun to carry on the tutu tradition!

Camping in the New Forest

This weekend we went camping in the New Forest with Tom and Becca. It was Lara’s first camping trip in England and a very big change from the campsites she is used to… Kalaloch in the Olympic National Park was her favourite! Lara though it was very strange to have a campsite that didn’t have a fire pit and doesn’t allow campfires…
Sam and Tom were very good cooks on a portable gas stove and disposable BBQ units. On Friday night we had dinner at a great pub called the Shoe Inn – www.shoeinn.co.uk. It was really great food and the staff were so friendly!
We were lucky that it didn’t rain so we enjoyed the wilderness, observed the nearby cows and horses, and were fortunate enough to have a clear night on Saturday so we could see LOTS of stars – saw a few shooting stars as well!
A big thank you to Tom for driving!

4th of July

Happy not being part of the UK anymore!

For the 4th of July we had a nice evening enjoying the sunshine with our friends Tom (one of the best men at the wedding) and Becca, we sat out on our driveway soaking up the sun and having a beer or two… or three…

We then went to The Treehouse pub which, coincidentally, had American flags and cowboys hats, it made Lara feel at home!

Here are some pictures from the evening:
