For Richard’s birthday, the seven of us went to Wales – Richard, Christine, Nick, Fern, Sam, Lara and Hugo, Christine and Richard’s dog. We stayed in the middle of nowhere with absolutely breathtaking views. It was great to spend time “away from it all,” just relaxing and taking walks.
Christine, Fern and Lara went into Hay-On-Wye, where there are tons of really cute (and expensive) shops, as well as a TON of used book stores. It was a really cute place. We also lit off fireworks because it was close to Bonfire Night, which is 5 November. For those of you who don’t know what Guy Fawkes Night, do as my mom and grandma would say – “Look it up.”
Richard is famous for his long walks. Last time we were in Wales, we went on a hike and got lost for four hours. This time, our trek took us into a Ministry of Defence (that’s how they spell it in the UK) firing range. Eeek! The sign says that you should not enter if the red flag is flying… which it was. But we all made it back in one piece.
